“Ellen is a caring, thoughtful and professional therapist. My husband and I worked with her for 10 sessions (in-person and on Zoom) and we were able to get to the heart of important issues. We now feel more understood and can recognize old narratives/traps that we may fall into. Ellen is fair, reasonable, and knows the right moments to challenge her patients. I would highly recommend her to any couple in need. Thank you!”

Getting to know Ellen Usatin

I am a bilingual (English/Russian) therapist born and raised in Odessa, Ukraine. I emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 16. My first profession is nursing. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from New York University as well as a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Touro University. Early in my career as a healthcare professional, I became aware of the mind-body connection and its effect on our emotional well-being. I view counseling as a person-centered, creative process of healing, wellness, and self-discovery. I strive to help my clients identify and capitalize on their strengths and to quiet the inner critic in order to find their own voice and meaning. I respect the cultural and spiritual aspects of my clients' worldview and their unique backgrounds.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is eclectic because I believe each person is unique and steer away from 'one size fits all" model. I strive to create a safe space where my clients can be themselves freely and without judgement. I like to explore challenges by looking into one's background, personality structure and upbringing. I appreciate how difficult it is to connect with the right therapist who gets you and is invested in your progress. I tend to be direct and engaging. I provide feedback and facilitate growth by asking questions and making observations.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During an initial consultation I begin by creating a biopsychosocial profile and taking a thorough history. I ask lots of questions in order to understand my client's unique situation and perspective regardless of how long we work together- few sessions or few years. . If you have never been in therapy before or did not have a positive experience with therapy, I understand your hesitation. Let’s schedule an initial session to see if my approach is right for you.

Ellen was a pleasure to work with. She is patient and understanding. Through our couple’s therapy sessions with her we were each able to be vulnerable and communicate clearly which has helped us navigate disagreements and moments of intensity.
She is very helpful with emotions and your problems and she is very friendly and understanding to people with disabilities and without them ??
Ellen, has been a great help, she is compassionate, kind, willing to listen and provides a great deal of support. She has provided our daughter with useful techniques that have changed things for the better as a family. She takes the time to hear your concerns as a parent and keeps you involved while still respecting the privacy of the discussions with her patients.
Very easy to speak with. Provides much insight to better understand different viewpoints. Easy to make follow up appointments as she is very accommodating.

Ellen is a great therapist. She assisted me with navigating some (at times) treacherous internal landscapes, all with non-judgment, compassion, and frequently insightful perspectives.
I’ve been Ellen’s client for almost 2 years now. She is judge free, supportive and stable. She gives lots of insight to anyone who is looking for an emotional yet helpful conversation. Her advice goes a long way. She helps with every kind of relationship. Whether you’re a mother, a spouse, a daughter or just a friend, Ellen has advice for every type of situation. I highly recommend Ellen to anyone who is looking for someone experienced to talk to. Look no further than Ellen Usatin!
She's extremely professional and makes sure your needs are met. She created a safe and welcome environment for the client. Additionally, she helped me figure out the internal worries that I've had and I feel much more at peace with myself. I had communication problems with my mom and she was extremely patient and allowed for our issues to be resolved. Highly recommend visiting her!
My daughter started attending Ellen’ sessions in March 2022. At the first session, I immediately noted her high professionalism, knowledge of child psychology and the ability to find an approach to every child. I later found out that Ellen is a unique specialist who has both a psychological and a medical education. She uses a lot of game and developmental aids, knows how to choose material that matches the age of the child and his interests. She offered variety of tasks aimed at developing different aspects of the child's personality. Ellen is a very sensitive, patient and tactful person. She feels and understands both children and their parents. As a young mother, I had many questions about the development and upbringing of a child, I asked Ellen and I received a detailed answer to each question. She is very attentive to each child, gives useful advice to help cope with the difficulties of the situation. I am very glad that my daughter and I were lucky enough to meet Ellen and attend her sessions. We sincerely thank her for her wonderful studies and wish her success in her career.
Oh my goodness, where to start? Dr. Ellen has made such a positive impact on my 14 year old. She has been seeing Dr. Ellen for a year and I have seen a big improvement in her levels of anxiety as well as how long her anxiety attacks last. She is kind, consistent, and great at communicating with me about updates. She is also accommodating in terms of shifting times after school if needed. I am SO happy she came into our family. I have seen a big change in my daughter and I know it is because of her guidance and sessions.
I highly recommend Ellen and feel so lucky to have found her! I had an amazing initial consultation with her and was amazed at how quickly she got me! After that, it seemed as if she picked up the rest of the puzzle pieces I needed to get on track to a happy and healthy life. I have tried many therapists before to no avail. What a nice surprise!
