Getting to know Emerita Verdejo

Hello, my name is Emerita Verdejo. I am an educator, licensed psychotherapist, and clinical social worker licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey. I serve as a leader within the field for an Ivy League school and tertiary care teaching hospital, a private practitioner, and CEO & owner of Pathways to Healing & Social Justice. During the first part of my career, I built a brand and became known as a master of organizational leadership, organizational change, and political advocacy. My experience as an educator was later complemented by a Master of Science degree in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University Graduate School of Social Services. I completed two residency programs: one year in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Room at New York Presbyterian Hospital and another year of service at the Domestic Violence and Other Services Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital. This intensive training prepared me for a foundation where I later served as the Wellbeing Co-Chair for Columbia University Medical Center and as a psychotherapist in private practice. I am a graduate of the Immigration Evaluation Training Center, specializing in psychological evaluations for immigration cases, a Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional, and a Certified Trauma-Trained Clinician. I founded Pathways to Healing and Social Justice because I believe that innately we all have the power to heal ourselves with the proper guidance and support. My career is dedicated to helping others achieve wellness in all domains-mental, physical, and spiritual. It is truly an honor and a privilege to help all in need. If you are seeking compassionate, safe, and informed care, you have found the right practice.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My Clients present with a wide variety of behavioural and/or mental health concerns which can include trauma/stress related disorders, mood disorders, anger management, emotion dysregulation, couples counselling, christian counselling and psychological evaluations for immigration cases. I am in general practice and treat a wide variety of illnesses. I am Trauma Trained Clinician, Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional and graduate of the Immigration Institute. I've worked in the Psychiatric Emergency Rooms and have extensive experience with survivors of trauma, legal advocacy and a cohort of mental/behavioural concerns. With compassion, relatability and empathy I build a strong therapeutic alliance with my clients. I believe that you do not need to be a victim of the past. I teach Client's how to break maladaptive cycles/patterns and move forward in healing choosing post-traumatic growth.
