Getting to know Emilie Reed

My passion is working with adolescents, young adults and their families to improve their mental health and family dynamics. I love helping clients and families get "unstuck" and grow in confidence. With 18 years of experience supporting clients through depression, anxiety, self harm, substance use, trauma, suicidal ideation and abuse/neglect, I provide a warm, interactive style that draws clients into the therapy process and keeps them engaged. While I offer outpatient telehealth appointments currently, I have experience working in adolescent inpatient hospital settings, residential settings and outpatients, both on and off military bases.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have a warm, engaging and energetic approach. I love using humor and laughter as well as creativity in my sessions. I ask for feedback and I always try to move at my client's pace. As a military spouse I understand the unique needs of the military population as well. I utilize CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, family systems approaches, and others, depending on the needs of my clients.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Initially I set up a 15min meet and greet to make sure the client and I are a good fit for each other. This also offers the opportunity for safety screening. The first session is an assessment so I understand the client's unique background and we set goals for our work together. After this, our sessions will focus on what the client feels is important!
