Emily Dirksmeyer, LCSW

Psychotherapist
TX
As a therapist with a Master's in Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin, I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of people in varied clinical and public policy settings. These experiences have led me to believe that our journeys as individuals are only enriched by the intersections we have with others and their stories. I feel incredibly fortunate to have intersected with so many stories and for the perspectives they have offered me both as a human and as a clinician along the way.

Getting to know Emily Dirksmeyer

As a therapist with a Master's in Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin, I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of people in varied clinical and public policy settings. These experiences have led me to believe that our journeys as individuals are only enriched by the intersections we have with others and their stories. What should a new client know about working with you?

Some of the populations I have worked with include adults in community clinic settings, individuals experiencing homelessness, youth in foster care and justice-involved youth and their families. From these experiences, I have developed an approach that is extremely person centered and I prioritize my role as an advocate to champion the needs of the individual regardless of their background. I am passionate about elevating my clients voice to prioritize their well deserved opportunity to thrive. As a therapist, I utilize a lot of imagery and symbolism, humor, when appropriate, and I prioritize a deeply compassionate approach to all of my work. I utilize an attachment-based therapy lens to support my clients in exploring patterns and experiences that have impacted their internalized view of self and the ways they are able to show up in relationships. I also am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy to support clients in healing from trauma exposure. Additionally, I have training in Cognitive Behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and trust-based relational interventions and utilize the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics developed by Dr. Bruce Perry to inform much of my attachment-based work with clients.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For all interested clients I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to learn a little bit more about what you are looking for and to see if we would be a good fit! A typical session is 50 minutes of talk therapy and initially consists of history taking and an opportunity for us to build rapport with one another. All of my sessions are held virtually and I will provide the link prior to our scheduled session for you to join the call.
