Getting to know Emily Flores
Many of us experience a disconnection from our self-consciousness due to earlier traumas during that period. Some of those experiences include stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, childhood wounds, neglect, abuse, and other of life's challenges. What if I told you that you could work through that pain and connect to your highest self-a more meaningful and positive self-image? The highest self is connected to intuition, truth, calmness, wisdom, and compassion. Finding our highest self can be challenging, yet it is achievable. My treatment modalities are embedded in traditional psychology training and interconnected with holistic healing.
I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Trinity Christian College, which grounds my approach in evidence-based practices. To make any changes in our life and improve our self-worth requires effort, sacrifice, hope, and a willingness to succeed. My clients have succeeded with me as I lead them through each step of the process. When our body expects to get better, it sends messages to our brain to begin the healing process. My specialties include trauma, mindfulness, EMDR, and grief.
I have a positive perspective and a residency for life that allows me to help each client improve their self-image, self-esteem, and become more resilient to succeed in their life journey. ?Let's start the journey.? The only way is through. I look forward to doing the work together.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I accept my clients as they are and encourage them to enter as their authentic self. My role is to walk the path next to them assisting them clinically in a way that is non shameful and with genuine empathy. I encompass both traditional training in school using DBT, narrative therapy, positive therapy, trauma informed care, and using holistic practices such as EMDR and somatic practices. My expectation as a therapist is to learn how I can best support each client and taylor my services to best aid in healing for my clients uniquely.

What is your typical process for working with clients?
Therapy begins with the first several sessions called intake where the therapist learns about the client's history and reasons for requesting services. Sessions are 52 minutes and typically begin weekly until the client's symptoms decrease and the client is functionally more optimally. The sessions also include learning about the client's triggers and reasons for client needed therapy. The client and therapist work together to create goals for the client to achieve in therapy.
Sessions typically held once a week at leasfor about 45 to 50 minutes. Both patient and therapist need to be actively involved in psychotherapy. The trust and relationship between a person and his/her therapist is important for working together effectively and making gains from psychotherapy.

Xiya is an amazing therapist and if you’re looking for someone who wants to use tools to improve your mental health I cannot recommend her enough. Not only is she incredibly friendly and makes it known that this is a non judgement zone, she’s also very positive and truly will listen to you and help guide you to tools to help. This is my first therapist who actively finds activities to use to help heal and learn more about yourself. I also love that she’s a real person and has her own sense of humor and doesn’t come off as a robot. Overall, this has been such an amazing experience and I cannot recommend her enough.

Working with Leah has honestly changed the way I see myself and the world around me. She doesn’t just listen but helps me dig into what’s really behind my thoughts and emotions. I had recently found Lotus Healing and Wellness because I was new to therapy. But meeting the provider Emily Flores was very quick and welcoming. She recommended me to Xiya Akande-Williams, who welcomed me with opened arms . Each session goes at my pace with no rush and it actually feels like someone is listening to me, and that's important compared to my past experiences. Emily is a wonderful practitioner who is both compassionate and professional. In my search for a therapist I was looking for someone to be progressive in their treatment style, embodying an overall holistic approach by offering both scientific and spiritualistic practices. What I mean by this is the ability to tap into practices such as manifestation, meditation, and visioning. I believe the path to a healthier lifestyle is tackling areas that relate to the mind, body and spirit. Emily fits the bill, she is extremely knowledgeable in the scientific study of psychology and psychotherapy but also embodies a coaching style to her approach by providing homework, lessons, practices and guidance. She offers explanations that are both scientific and practical, allowing you to decide the depth in which she teaches. Navigating the past, present and future are apart of the human experience and I value having Emily close by to be apart of the ride.

I enjoy my therapy sessions with Emily. I appreciate her listening and understanding. I enjoy the way she puts her self in my shoes, it helps me feel validated and understood.
One thing that I noticed Emily does that is unique to other therapists I have seen is that although there is a lot of listening, she takes time to talk to me to share similar experiences or explain why feelings I am having arise. It is helpful to have someone listen to you but it is another thing to also have them actively give you advice or how they can relate to you. I often feel more comfortable and confident after sessions than I originally had felt prior to the sessions.

I feel heard. For Emily to not know me at all before our first visit I feel she understood me and what I'm about immediately. I have a hard time trusting and usually start slow with anyone I meet, even in therapy, but I felt extremely safe, heard, validated, and challenged.
Because of the comfort level she provides, I feel secure in knowing any and all items I pack each session fall in good hands. Even the "yucky" stuff that may not feel great talking about, I do so without hesitation.
I would be remiss in my evaluation if I didn't mention how smart she is. She's extremely intelligent and "on" all the time. She is present and ready to do the work each session.
I'm excited to see my growth as a person and look forward with genuine optimism and hopefulness not only in what I learn about myself but what I will learn in life.

I chose Emily as my therapist because she specializes in trauma. Which I struggled with majority of my life she truly listens and understands her clients with empathy. She really takes her time to educate her clients to have a better understanding of why things happen and how to overcome challenges. Also tried EMDR with her for the first time already feel the benefits! Highly recommend ??

Emily is hands down, the best therapist I’ve ever met. She’s sweet, caring, professional, and amazing at what she does. Finding someone to help unpack a lifetime of trauma was daunting to consider. On top of that, I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. Emily has been gentle and encouraging every step of the way, letting me set the pace for our sessions. She’s created a genuinely safe space where I feel comfortable- and that is no small feat! I have never left a session feeling negatively, whenever we discuss heavy stuff, she always makes it a point to end on a good note. I have made huge improvements since I started coming to her last year and I’m so excited to continue working with her.
If you’re looking for a trauma therapist but are a bit hesitant about starting like I was, you should give Emily a call.
