Getting to know Emily Smith

I help adults, adolescents, and their families begin to heal. After we've experienced things that keep us stuck-loss, trauma, grief, the unexpected road bumps-it can be incredibly tough to stay fully connected to ourselves and the people we love. As human beings, we are ever-growing, ever-changing, ever-evolving. This comes with feelings. BIG feelings that show up in many ways: raging, paranoid, sorrowful, numb, hyperfocused, distracted, disconnected, and so much more. I am a licensed social worker with licenses in Georgia and North Carolina. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Aurora University. My experience comes from working in high-crisis, residential settings, helping adults and adolescents recover from the deep wounds of their past. I'm passionate about guiding my clients toward deeply rooted, sustainable healing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m a true-crime fanatic, water sport lover, sucker when it comes to most any animal but especially dogs, and I can bake a mean pie. Oh, I also swear like a sailor. So. There’s that. * shoulder shrug * I know that relationship comes before all else, and so this is the first thing that we'll build in our work together. From there, we'll work as a team to call forward the parts of you that you've kept in the shadows but still can be so loud. You're a self healer, as humans are. But why go this journey alone if you don't have to?

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I know what it feels like to feel like you're "too much" when really, you feel like you're not much at all. Too loud, too quiet, too sassy, too passive, too eager, too reserved, too trusting, too guarded, too whatever. All you hear is that you're too opposite of what you're supposed to be. You feel some kind of broken, defective, damaged, and you're tired of living life like this. I help people shatter these beliefs. I want to help you reclaim (or claim for the first time) your power. You need someone to listen without judgement and someone to guide you to your truth. You need someone to help you pick yourself up when you can’t do it on your own and someone to cut the B.S when life has already given you too much of that. I can be those things for you..

Emily was a comfortable presence right from the jump. She used my correct pronouns without skipping a beat and emphasized that I was always the driver of my process.
