I received my Masters in Mental Health Counseling in 2015. For over 10 years I’ve enjoyed working with families to teach children of all ages social and emotional skills; as well as collaborating with and coaching caregivers and teachers on identifying the child’s underlying needs in order to help them learn new skills to improve their overall wellbeing. I strongly believe play is the child’s language and the primary way they can learn to understand themselves and express their needs. I use a child-centered, non-directive play therapy approach to allow space for children to feel in control while building skills that correlate to their treatment goals. When working with adults I have several primary therapeutic approaches including Psychodynamic Therapy to assist people in processing their life story, increase their understanding of patterns that have developed since childhood, and to create new ways of thinking. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help identify and restructure thoughts and feelings that are standing in the way of goal achievement. I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy to separate the emotional and rational mind to feel more in control of everyday life. I'm currently in the process of becoming certified in Somatic Therapy to be fully equipped to help clients heal emotional and psychological issues by paying attention to bodily sensations and movement. This approach can help individuals become more aware of their physical responses to stress and trauma, and learn to release pent-up tension and promote healing.
