“Emma connected with me on a level where I felt heard. She was able to work with me in a short amount of time to calm some of my anxieties that I was feeling. I want to continue working with her because I know she will be able to help me heal from my past trauma that I never wanted to face but now realize it is the very first step to healing.”

Getting to know Emma Crissman

My name is Emma Crissman, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Orange County, CA, providing services statewide via telehealth. I work with adolescents and adults, specializing in developmental trauma and trauma treatment using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and the NeuroAffective Relational Model. I earned my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University, Irvine Campus. My approach varies depending on the needs of each client. I am an eclectic therapist, utilizing various methods such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered, Family Systems, Attachment-based, and trauma-focused approaches. I typically work with individuals who have experienced developmental trauma or traumatic events that later manifest as symptoms of depression, anxiety, or PTSD. Clients may face challenges in their intimate relationships or struggle with a poor sense of self. I help individuals make sense of their experiences and develop skills to navigate life with meaning. As a therapist, my goal is to build a safe and secure relationship with clients, providing a space where they can explore all parts of themselves. In this relationship, I am genuine and offer unconditional positive regard and empathy. Establishing a trusting, therapeutic relationship within the first session is important to me. I focus on understanding each client and meeting them where they are. I also encourage clients to ask questions about me to foster a collaborative relationship. During my early college years, I was unsure about my career path. I initially tried nursing but realized it wasn't the right fit. The desire to help people remained, so I explored psychology. Taking a developmental psychology course changed my life-everything began to make sense.
