Emma Sommers is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and their license number is 37PC00900200. They hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Scranton. *Please note: Mind & Body CCS is a small private practice that offers talk therapy only. We do not provide letters or psychiatric evaluations beyond the scope of our practitioners.* I try to have an approach that is inviting, authentic, and non-judgmental. I believe that therapy should allow clients to have autonomy within sessions while maintaining focus on their treatment goals. I typically integrate DBT, CBT, SFBT, Mindfulness-Based, and Motivational Interviewing approaches but will engage in the approach best fit to the client in front of me. My goals as a clinician are to promote a sense of autonomy and foster resilience in each individual I work with. My hope is that I can serve as a source of support and encouragement, walking alongside clients as they grow, change, and move forward in life. What works for one person does not work for all, and I aim to connect genuinely with each individual, meeting them where they are with humor, compassion, and attentiveness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have worked in the mental health field for over 5 years in various settings and levels of care. I specialize in life transitions, anxiety, and athletic performance; but also work in addiction, personality disorders, chronic impulsivity, grief, relationship issues and codependency, emotional disturbance, gender identity, sexuality, trauma and PTSD.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Clients will be contacted by one of the practice owners to confirm session details and to have a client portal set up through Mind & Body CCS. ALL DOCUMENTATION MUST BE COMPLETE WITHIN 24 HOURS OF BOOKING OR YOU WILL FORFIT YOUR APPOINTMENT. The first session is an intake, where history and presenting issues will be discussed in more detail. Follow-up sessions will be scheduled out in a time slot that first for both the client and clinician, and goals and treatment plans will be reviewed periodically to ensure there is progress in therapy. While clients may come in with a specific goal, current life stressors are never ignored and sessions may take on a different theme when warranted.
