Erica Goodman, LMSW

Psychotherapist
NY
Hello and welcome. I work with adults in New York who are seeking therapy for anxiety, stress, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck, unsure of themselves, or overwhelmed by patterns they don’t fully understand. My role is to help you make sense of those experiences and move toward meaningful, sustainable change. Therapy is a collaborative process focused on clarifying goals, increasing self-understanding, and identifying what may be contributing to current challenges. Together, we work to build insight, strengthen emotional awareness, and create strategies that support improved functioning and overall well-being. I strive to provide a supportive, grounded, and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore concerns openly and reconnect with their values, strengths, and sense of direction. Therapy doesn’t offer instant solutions, but with consistency and intention, it can become a powerful tool for growth, resilience, and long-term change.

My role is to help you make sense of those experiences and move toward meaningful, sustainable change. Together, we work to build insight, strengthen emotional awareness, and create strategies that support improved functioning and overall well-being. What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is structured, collaborative, and compassionate. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), IFS-informed therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to help clients better understand their emotional patterns while also working toward practical, achievable goals. CBT helps clarify how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact in daily life. IFS-informed work allows space to explore the deeper “why” behind patterns with curiosity rather than judgment. Motivational Interviewing supports focus, direction, and momentum by helping clients clarify what changes matter most to them and how to move toward them. Clients who tend to do well in my work are those who value both insight and practical tools, and who are open to reflecting on patterns while also taking steps toward change. Therapy is paced collaboratively and adjusted based on individual needs and goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy typically begins with an initial session focused on understanding your concerns, goals, and what led you to seek therapy at this time. Early sessions help establish direction, clarify priorities, and identify patterns that may be contributing to current challenges. Ongoing sessions are collaborative and conversational, with attention to what feels most relevant in your day-to-day life. Together, we work to build insight, develop coping strategies, and apply what is discussed in session to real-life situations. Sessions are guided by your goals and adjusted over time based on progress and evolving needs. Throughout the process, I aim to provide consistency, support, and thoughtful feedback, while helping you develop tools and understanding that extend beyond the therapy space.

More information on payments and coverage

I am in-network with Aetna and Northwell Direct, and therapy sessions are billed directly through insurance. Coverage details such as copays, deductibles, and session limits vary by individual plan, so clients are encouraged to confirm their specific benefits with their insurance provider. Any applicable copay or out-of-pocket cost is due at the time of service. My goal is to keep the payment process as transparent and straightforward as possible so clients can focus on their therapeutic work rather than financial logistics. If you have questions about insurance coverage or payment prior to scheduling, I’m happy to help clarify what to expect.
