Psychotherapist
CO
HI! I’m Erica Zadakis, PhD. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) licensed in Arizona and Colorado. I am a trained trauma-informed therapist who works with teens, adults, and premarital couples navigating complex trauma and relationship challenges. My approach integrates EMDR and Brainspotting to support nervous system healing, deeper self-understanding, and more connected relationships. My therapeutic philosophies are guided by family systems theory and attachment theory. Using these trauma-informed approaches helps me to develop a strong insight to help clients better understand themselves. This is the foundation of the work that I do, especially when working with couples. Having this knowledge enables them to have love and compassion for themselves and their loved ones. I strongly believe in bottom-up approaches because they bring up things that are not in our consciousness. This makes it harder for us to intellectualize our pain so we can actually feel it and process it. Outside of work, I have lots of loves in my life, which include dogs, but really all animals. I love going to the gym and taking care of my plants. Nothing beats a good cup of coffee too! I'm usually doing something involving one of those things at any given time outside of working with clients. I can’t wait to learn more about you!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Before we begin, I want to make sure you feel informed and supported every step of the way — including when it comes to insurance. I understand how confusing insurance plans and copays can be, so I aim to be upfront and transparent to avoid any surprises with billing. I’m in-network with most major health insurance plans and happy to confirm your coverage before you schedule. That said, I’m not in-network with any Medicaid plans — including AHCCCS (Arizona Medicaid) and Health First Colorado — even if they’re paired with another insurance type. Due to state regulations, I’m unable to see clients with Medicaid coverage. I genuinely wish I could work with everyone, and I know how disappointing this might feel if it applies to you. If so, I truly encourage you to reach out to your plan for a list of in-network providers who can support your needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach begins with a thorough assessment to understand symptoms and challenges and determine the best course of treatment. I share my clinical impressions with the client so we can collaboratively develop a clear plan of action and identify any additional assessments that may be helpful. This allows us to start treatment efficiently and focus on early relief, often through psychoeducation and coping skills. Psychoeducation is woven throughout our work, with greater emphasis in the first few sessions to ensure shared understanding and expectations.
