Getting to know Erik Beresnoy
You did what you were supposed to do. You built the career, kept the relationship going, held the family together. And still, some days you look at your life and wonder whose story you're actually living.
I'm Erik, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and I work with adults, couples and families ready to ask that question out loud. Maybe it shows up as anxiety, a relationship stuck on the same argument, a recovery that's lost its spark, or a change you can't quite name yet.
My work is rooted in narrative therapy, where I'm Level 2 certified, and it starts from a simple idea: you are not the problem. The problem is the problem. You're the expert on your own life. I'll ask good questions, push a little when it helps, and pay attention to how family, culture and circumstance shaped the script you were handed. We'll keep the beliefs that still serve you and rewrite the rest. I'm also certified in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), which adds practical tools for the anxious, stuck moments in between.
I didn't start out as a therapist. I spent years in the electrical industry until my advocacy in the recovery community, which I've been part of for more than 15 years, pulled me toward counseling. I'm also a Recovery and Empowerment Coach, trained through CCAR and the Ammon Foundation. Today I teach future counselors at Pace University, where I'm also a doctoral student. Off the clock, I'm a husband, a dad and a proud dog and cat parent.
Sessions are online for clients anywhere in New York.
