I have dedicated my life's work to helping individuals recover from trauma and abuse. Having earned my Master's in Social Work from the University of Chicago, I bring both professional training and personal experience to my practice. I have lived in the darkness and took the treacherous journey towards the light. Getting to know Erika Napoleon

I have dedicated my life's work to helping individuals recover from trauma and abuse. Having earned my Master's in Social Work from the University of Chicago, I bring both professional training and personal experience to my practice. I have lived in the darkness and took the treacherous journey towards the light. The many missteps and detours made along the way give me a deep understanding and empathy for where you are on your healing journey. No matter where you are, I am confident that positive change and recovery is possible for you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a collaborative, trauma-informed therapist. I view current struggles and problems as the summation of life experiences (what happened) and the interpretation and adaptation of the body and mind to those experiences (meaning derived from what happened.) I strive to deeply understand the unique experiences of each person with whom I work. Then, I draw from a wide range of therapeutic modalities to elicit movement through stuck-points and heal relational wounds.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I draw from a wide array of top-down and bottom-up modalities. I believe that top-down interventions such as CBT/DBT are effective at building tools to manage present stressors and triggers. Bottom-up (brain-based) interventions such as EMDR allow us access to the unhealed wounds and traumas that are stored in the body and limbic system. I encourage all clients to be open and communicative about what is working/not working regarding their treatment. Because safety and trust takes time to build, I approach my therapeutic process with flexibility, humility, open-mindedness, and compassion.
