Erin Trainor, LPC

Psychotherapist
2835 N Sheffield Ave, Ste 401, Chicago, IL
My passion is working with adults and adolescents, survivors of trauma, and those who struggle with depression, anxiety, self-image, self-neglect, boundary setting, toxic relationships, OCD, and life changes. In addition to using Exposure and Ritual Prevention Therapy for those managing OCD symptoms, I use a person-centered approach to counseling, using your unique experience to guide my therapeutic interventions. I aim to create flexible, trusting, and adaptive relationships with adults, as well as youth and their families, and I strongly believe that helping you identify your strengths and supports changes your worldview and creates hope, in turn allowing us to build the tools needed to approach your goals. As a Certified Yoga Instructor, I often includes somatic tools (mind-body work, breath-work, etc.) to assist you in becoming more grounded and connected to your body and your story. It is also important to note that I am deeply committed to operating within an anti-oppression framework, and I am a sex-positive counselor believing in serving the diverse needs of LGBTQIA+ clients in a way that supports their own lived experiences. My trauma work has also been informed by by training in a Trauma-Informed Therapy Model, a Certification in Crisis Advocacy, and volunteering as a medical advocate for survivors of violence and sexual assault.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am known for being gentle, and allowing space for my clients to process difficult emotions in a safe way; however, I am also an active part of the therapy process in order to guide us toward your goals. Forward movement is important for change, but I am sensitive to your comfort level with the speed at which we move. Personal growth is not linear, and I am here for whatever needs the work at any moment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We will have two separate intake meetings in which I will gather information about your background, symptoms, goals, etc. During these meetings, I am putting together the puzzle pieces that make you you and flagging the things that I think might be causing you dysfunction. This helps me develop an appropriate treatment plan with attainable goals for therapy. Once completed, I will share this plan with you to start our collaborative journey together. Nothing is out of reach! We can do this!
