Getting to know Esmeralda Guzman

The majority of my clinical work began in the U.S./Mexico border region. Through both my clinical experiences and personal observations, I recognized many systemic barriers that affect the community’s access to care. One area I wanted to address further was adapting the treatments I was trained in to better incorporate the cultural values of the community. I strive to include my patients’ values, such as family and faith, whenever possible, into the treatment process. My ongoing interest lies in working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams and addressing severe mental illness. I also plan to expand my services by incorporating more psychological testing to better serve my community. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, eating good food, and watching DC movies.
