Ethan Pettyjohn is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon who has been practicing since 2018. He holds an MA in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine granted by the Boston University School of Medicine. His course work included assessment and diagnosis, individual and group counseling, human growth and development, human sexuality, addictions counseling, psychopharmacology, and behavioral medicine. Ethan employs a person-centered approach to treatment while also utilizing techniques from narrative therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). He believes that each client is the author of their own story, and that counseling can provide the tools to help clients re-write their personal narrative in a way that aligns with their goals and values. As a counselor, Ethan believes that his role is to facilitate the client’s journey through values clarification, narrative exercises, and skills training to help them achieve their self-identified goals. Ethan regularly employs writing and role-playing exercises as part of his practice and encourages clients to continue to work on their treatment goals outside of session by keeping a journal or completing practice exercises. Outside of work, Ethan is an avid reader of science fiction and fantasy with a passion for tabletop roleplaying games. He also enjoys hiking, cycling, and live music.
