Getting to know Ethan York

The people I most often find myself working with are queer young adults and teens who are navigating life stressors while forming their identities. I'm trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and often use this therapeutic approach while supporting clients healing from childhood and other interpersonal traumatic experiences. I also assist clients in processing other aspects of identity, including family, ethnicity, faith, and spirituality. I am very passionate about working with people who are in the LGBTQ+ community, people of faith, and those with post-traumatic stress symptoms seeking peace and resolution in their mind and body. I have experience working with various forms of traumatic dissociation and assist with an increased sense of self through the use of ego state therapies. My goal is always to walk with my clients to find freedom, fulfillment, and a connected sense of self. Regardless of the therapeutic approach used, therapy is always about the whole person. The physical, emotional, social, interpersonal, and economic needs all matter and are considered in the therapeutic process. I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Moody Theological Institute and a Bachelor's degree from Charter Oak State College, which have equipped me with a strong foundation to support my clients holistically.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My goal is always to walk with my clients to find freedom, fulfillment, and a connected sense of self. The whole person -- mind, body, and spirit -- is welcomed and considered during the therapeutic process. I value the inclusion of assessment and clinical judgement as part of providing quality mental health counseling, combined with a strong therapeutic relationship and connection between myself and my clients. I offer a free 15-minute consultation during which we can talk about therapy and see what would be the best fit for you.
