Etta Gaines, MEd

Psychotherapist
201 N Oak Ave, Ste A, Cookeville, TN
As a person-centered therapist, I believe meaningful change begins with feeling truly seen, heard, and accepted. My approach is grounded in empathy, authenticity, and a deep respect for each individual’s capacity for growth. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients of all ages can explore their experiences, build self-awareness, and move toward greater emotional well-being. I work with children, adolescents, young adults, and families, tailoring my approach to meet each client’s developmental and relational needs. With children, I incorporate elements of play therapy to help them express feelings, process experiences, and build coping skills in ways that feel natural and engaging. Through play, children communicate what they may not yet have words for, allowing healing to unfold in a supportive environment. For adolescents and young adults, I provide a collaborative space to navigate identity development, relationships, stress, and life transitions. I honor each client’s unique perspective and work alongside them to foster resilience, self-confidence, and clarity. When working with families, I focus on strengthening communication, deepening understanding, and supporting healthier connection patterns. I recognize that each family system is unique and aim to help members feel heard while working toward shared goals. Across all populations, my work is rooted in the belief that people thrive when they are met with genuine care and understanding. My goal is to support clients in reconnecting with their inner strengths and creating meaningful, lasting change in their lives.
