Faith Schreib, LPCC

Psychotherapist
CA
As a therapist who identifies as neurodivergent, I personally understand the difficulties in finding professional help that truly creates meaningful, long-lasting change. If you’re in the “avoid, feel guilty, then avoid more” cycle, let’s chat. Continually being overwhelmed is a sign that your current life is NOT sustainable and that change is desperately needed. You’re exhausted. You thought things would get better with time but they haven’t. If you struggle with Procrastination, Low motivation, Brain fog, Extreme fatigue then you know how daunting small tasks can be. Feeling scatterbrained and not being able to explain "why" gets heavy over time. I specialize in several areas, particularly folks who have been diagnosed with, or suspect they have, ADHD and/or Autism. I also work frequently with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Oftentimes, clients are unaware that what they are experiencing is not just anxiety. Do you ever have random intrusive thoughts that feel complete opposite of what you would normally do? Like throw your phone at someone, hurt your child or yourself, envision your partner cheating, or even drive into a wall? You may be experiencing OCD. Understanding how to differentiate OCD from anxiety is VITAL as traditional talk therapy can actually increase compulsive symptoms at times. You're not crazy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

If you find comfort in dark humor, we may be a good match. I strongly feel that being able to laugh and make "inside" jokes with ourselves as people is how we get through dark times. I hold the importance of being human as high as therapist. I'm direct, ask the harder questions and find that accountability can be uncomfortable but growth is usually found there. Sometimes we need a nudge, other times we just need our struggles to be seen. Dancing between both is called therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I think goals are important. Without goals, we're getting in the car and driving without a destination. Goals don't mean that we can't change the destination but it gives a starting point. If you don't know what direction you want to go...perfect! Let's talk about what it's like to struggle with identifying that. Our first few sessions are me getting to know you. We go at your speed, whatever that looks like. Week to week events in relationships, work and home life point to patterns. Patterns change when we learn to see them for what they are. When we spot the pattern, we spot the point for how to shift. You know you're ready for change when you feel as though you can't stay where you are.
