Dr. Fatima Aydin, PhD

Psychotherapist
MA
I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist in private practice, working with individuals, couples, and families, primarily through Telehealth since the start of the pandemic. I hope to return to in-person work in the coming year. My approach is integrative, partly relying on my training in insight-oriented therapy and partly on my interest in alternative forms of healing. I have been influenced by the works of Carl Rogers, Carl Jung, Abraham Maslow, Erik Erikson, Lawrence Kohlberg, and Freud. Additionally, I have studied Ayurveda, the Chakra System, and other Eastern ways of conceptualizing emotional health and well-being. I hold a PhD and a Master's degree in Psychology from Boston University, completed an internship in Psychology at Harvard Medical School, and earned my Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine. My goal as a therapist is to help people gain clarity about themselves and determine what is truly valuable to them so they can establish a life path that feels authentic. Along with finding their sense of purpose, I encourage the development of healthy, vibrant relationships and a strong sense of social connectedness. My therapeutic style is somewhat interactive; I actively participate in the therapy process with my clients by asking deepening questions and offering input. My aim is to get to the heart of the matter to facilitate healing. Regarding medication, I see psychiatric medication as useful in some cases of depression and severe anxiety to achieve stabilization and provide support. However, I encourage clients to resolve the underlying issues contributing to their symptoms so they can free themselves from long-term reliance on medication. I also emphasize self-care, encouraging clients to develop healthy avenues of self-expression-whether through exercise, creative pursuits, meditation, yoga, travel, or any activity that helps them connect with themselves, reduce stress, and tap into joy and fulfillment.
