Getting to know Fatima Lundy

Fatima Lundy is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey, as well as a Certified Financial Therapist™ (CFT™). She is the founder of TIMA Therapist, PC, a fully online private practice serving adult individuals and couples across New York and New Jersey via telehealth. Fatima specializes in three interconnected areas: financial wellness, relationship challenges, and sexual intimacy. Her work is grounded in the understanding that how we handle money, how we connect with our partners, and how we experience intimacy are rarely separate issues — and that lasting healing requires addressing all of them. Beyond her clinical work, Fatima is a published author and emotional abuse advocate. Her memoir, No More Lies, documents her personal experience surviving an emotionally abusive relationship and has been praised by clinicians and survivors alike for its clinical clarity and unflinching honesty. She brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work with clients navigating toxic relationship dynamics. Fatima holds a Master of Science in Education (MSEd) in Mental Health Counseling from Hunter College and is affiliated with the American Counseling Association (ACA), Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Honor Society, the Financial Therapy Association (FTA), and the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is different from traditional therapy in a few important ways — and I want you to know what to expect before your first session. First, I am direct. I believe in honest, compassionate conversations that get to the heart of what's really going on. I will not simply nod and reflect your words back to you. I will challenge you — gently but firmly — because that is where growth happens. Second, I am integrative. I do not use a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on your needs, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Person-Centered Therapy. I meet you exactly where you are and build a plan that fits your life. Third, I specialize in areas that many therapists avoid: the emotional weight of financial stress, the complexity of sexual intimacy, and the hidden patterns of emotionally abusive relationships. If these are topics you have struggled to discuss openly with a previous therapist, you will find a different experience here. All sessions are conducted via telehealth on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. You do not need to travel, sit in a waiting room, or rearrange your entire schedule. Sessions are available Sundays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM EST — designed for busy professionals who need flexibility. If you are ready to do the real work, I am ready to show up for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with your first full intake session, which runs approximately 50 to 60 minutes. During the intake, we explore your personal history, current concerns, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. Together, we establish a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs and goals. From there, most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and a strong therapeutic foundation. As progress is made, we may transition to biweekly sessions. Session frequency is always flexible and adjusted based on your goals and life circumstances. For couples and families, the intake process follows a similar structure, with additional focus on relationship dynamics, communication patterns, and shared goals. For clients interested in group therapy, I offer financial wellness support groups and psychoeducational workshops that provide both clinical support and community connection. All sessions are conducted via Sessions Health, a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. You will receive a link prior to each appointment. All you need is a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone.
