Francine Filzen, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hello! My name is Franni Filzen, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and credentialed art therapist. I hold a Master’s degree in Marital and Family Therapy from Loyola Marymount University. I work with youth, individuals, and families from a strength-based relational approach. I believe every person is unique and use an eclectic approach, drawing from my experience and selecting the modality that works best for each individual. My approach I use family systems, attachment theory, trauma-informed care, the neuro-sequential model of therapeutics, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused techniques, collaborative problem solving, and other modalities, incorporating art therapy when appropriate. Most important is meeting the person(s) where they are. My focus I have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses. My experience includes working with the military and their families, in residential treatment, hospice, correctional facilities, schools, private practice, and community mental health. I enjoy engaging with clients motivated to create change. I am comfortable working with many conditions and refer clients if their needs exceed my scope. My communication style I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in counseling. I strive to meet people where they are, create a safe and trusting space, and explore the reasons that bring someone to therapy. Most clients connect quickly and find it easy to talk with me, as I am down to earth and approachable. My journey to therapy I have had several careers—fine artist, graphic designer, landscape architect, and librarian. Through these roles, I discovered I truly enjoy the people aspect of each field. Art therapy was the perfect blend of my interests, and to practice it, I needed an additional credential. I was drawn to marriage and family therapy because it utilizes a systemic approach that resonates with me.
