Getting to know Frank Sammet

My name is Frank Sammet. I’m an independently licensed mental health provider (LIMHP). I obtained my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Iowa College in 1995 and have been licensed independently since 1997. I received a majority of my training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, departments of Psychiatry and Social Patient Family Services. My approach My approach to treatment is client-centered and integrative, combining elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness to tailor treatment to each individual's unique needs. My focus My areas of specialty and interest include eating disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders (specifically clusters B and C), mood disorders, and emotional dysregulation issues. I also have an interest, and quite a bit of experience, working with couples of diverse backgrounds on a variety of relationship issues. My communication style I perceive myself much like a teacher, giving clients a language and a construct to identify and express their perceptions and associated emotions. Sessions with me tend to be rather candid, focused on the reason(s) we are working together. My journey to mental healthcare My interest in becoming a therapist developed during my undergraduate studies, where I enjoyed learning about the process of development and socialization. My first professional job was as a mental health screener in Delray Beach, FL. After working with the multidisciplinary team and seeing the progress and development people achieved through therapy, I knew that was the path I wanted to pursue. My goals for you I believe it is important to develop a therapeutic rapport with people through a collaborative process of joining and establishing trust.
