Gabriela Ortiz, LPC

Psychotherapist
NJ
I became a therapist because I'm passionate about helping others, based on my personal experiences and a desire to break the stigma around mental health. I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a Bachelor's degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. In our first session, I'll explain how therapy works so we can talk about what you expect and make sure we're on the same page as we begin. What I love most about therapy is building a strong relationship with my clients and seeing the positive changes they make, even when they don't notice it right away. I help clients set clear, achievable goals using a simple system called SMART goals, and I regularly check in to track progress and adjust as needed. If you're nervous about starting therapy, that's completely normal! We're just regular people here to listen to your story, offer support, and give feedback when needed. Think of therapy like having a safe space to talk, where you can share your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Sessions are booked on either a weekly or biweekly basis.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Although I consider Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy (SFBT) to be my "go-to" therapeutic approaches throughout my sessions, I am aware that "no-one-size-fits-all". Therefore, I also utilize a multi-modal approach to provide my clients with an approach that fits their needs.
