Getting to know Gail Mahecha

Gail Mahecha has been in the mental health field for over 30 years. Her energetic and welcoming approach is effective in establishing trust and therapeutic relationships with clients. Gail has worked with young children, teens, young and older adults, couples, and families. Gail has also worked with the LGBTQ community.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My path to becoming a therapist began when I was a junior in high school and taking a sociology class. I was awed by the relationship between our society and how it affects us as human beings. From there, I pursued my degree in social work. I have worked in hospitals, foster care, early intervention, and educational settings. These experiences have shaped my practice in beginning "where my clients are" and then journeying together in the therapeutic process. I have enjoyed working with people for the past several years. I look forward to working together to find that path toward your peace and happiness. I personally use journaling, meditating, time in the outdoors, and reading strategies for self-care. My intake process includes gathering basic identifying information and goals for therapy. Therapy with me is a no-judgment zone and we will develop goals together. I work well with people who are interested in exploring talk therapy, emotional validation and support, mindfulness, and CBT. I work well with teens, adults of all ages, families, couples, and the LGBTQ+ community. My core values have been shaped by having been raised to believe that empathy, understanding, and kindness come first; these values have shaped my approach to care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I think it's important to explore past experiences and how they have led to certain behavioral patters and then develop strategies to live your best life.I work well with people who are interested in exploring talk therapy, emotional validation and support, mindfulness, and CBT.

Working with Gail has truly been life changing for me. She is the most understanding and is able to guide a conversation into areas that bring growth and makes you feel comfortable along the way. Gail has helped me deal with grief and loss in ways that I truly could not have done without her and I am forever grateful. If you or a loved needs a helpful ear or help with guided conversation in working with whatever it is that is causing you to struggle please please please reach out to Gail. She is amazing.
Gail has been a huge help to me. From the beginning, she made me feel comfortable opening up and never judged. She listens carefully, offers thoughtful feedback, and has helped me work through things in a productive way. I always leave sessions feeling more grounded and understood. I highly recommend her.
Gail is an amazing therapist with years of experience under her belt. She listens, responds, and eases all of the nerves I had going into therapy. Highly recommend booking an appointment with her.
I’ve been seeing Gail for a little under a year now. She has been a great virtual therapist and a strong source of support during my move across states and through various unforeseen life events this past year. She listens attentively while also providing thoughtful, constructive feedback that helps me broaden my perspective and create healthy boundaries, even when they feel uncomfortable at first. Gail often uses metaphors and examples that make it easier to work through challenges and navigate relationships in my life. I’ve been in therapy for about five years and initially sought support for LGBTQ-related reasons. I felt very comfortable transferring from my old therapist to Gail, as LGBTQ is one of her specialties, and I feel I can speak freely with her. She also offers flexibility in scheduling, which works well with my traditional 9–5 job.
