Hi there, I'm Galen! I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker based in Rhode Island, licensed in Massachusetts and Washington state. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Washington. I work with children, adolescents, and adults to cultivate a positive, compassionate relationship with themselves and build tools to navigate challenges and move toward their goals. My approach I believe the environment we create has outpaced our ability to adapt; we operate with hunter/gatherer “software” that no longer serves us well. This mismatch can show up as depression, anxiety, and trauma, forming the basis of my therapeutic approach. I help people identify and hold compassion for where their thought patterns and behaviors come from and the function they serve, while exploring new, more helpful patterns. My focus I may be a fit for anyone experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, or life transitions. I have a background working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma, parent support, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and men seeking new value and meaning in their lives. My communication style I believe humor can be a powerful way to process and bond, and when appropriate, I find moments to laugh together. I seek a balance between empathetic listening and offering reflections and reframing.
