Getting to know Garrett Shotwell

Hi, I'm Garrett Shotwell, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's in Social Work from Louisiana State University. In therapy, my goal is to foster a safe environment and help you create space in your life. This allows for acceptance and integration of your authentic self. For me, being let into your life is the truest honor-let's create space together! While I incorporate a wide range of interventions, here is a list of some approaches I use: - Trauma-Informed - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) - Existential - Strength-based - Person-Centered (Rogerian) - Motivational Interviewing - Harm Reduction Through kindness, my goal is to shine a light on parts that need tending and gently guide you through the process of accessing your own tools, while developing new ones, to heal.

What should a new client know about working with you?

For me, one of the biggest gifts in my life is having the privilege to be let into people's inner worlds. My style in psychotherapy is casual and humanistic, and I believe that being able to feel 'seen' is one of the best gifts you can give someone. I came to be a psychotherapist through obtaining my masters degree in social work from Louisiana State University. I have over 10 years experience within the mental health field, with the majority of my experience being rooted in person-centered care with focus on anxiety, depression, and trauma.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first step in starting the therapeutic process usually begins with a consultation call to ensure that you feel comfortable, and that I have the clinical tools to help you with your goals. Once we decide that we are a good fit, we have an intake session. In the intake session, I'll explore your past, present, and what you're hoping to get out of talk therapy. This will also be an opportunity for you to ask me questions about my approach. I believe in transparency within this space. After that, we will use your goals as a guidepost and find a way to get there together.
