What should a new client know about working with you?

Treatment at DeVine Interventions Group is evidence based, utilizing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), often called the 3rd wave of CBT (along with MCBT and DBT). ACT has been demonstrated to be an effective treatment for a variety of disorders in over 1,000 randomized trials. However, specific disorders require specific interventions, which are chosen according to the recommendations of SAMHSA (a federal agency). Exposure and Response Prevention is used to treat OCD because it has demonstrated efficacy in remitting this disorder. Other disorders require other interventions, and a competent therapist will be trained in these interventions, while referring a client to another therapist if not trained in these interventions. Although treatment is evidence based, it isn't always effective. On rare occasion, it may possibly do harm, or may only be slightly effective. Psychotherapy is like any medical treatment in this regard. Having said that, therapy has been demonstrated to be slightly to fully effective treatment for a variety disorders, such as depression, bipolar, OCD, PTSD, anxiety, addictions, process addictions, insomnia, pain management, etc. It has even been proven effective when the person has no disorder, but simply needs help with parenting or navigating grief.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Most clients will see their therapist for a 50-55 minute session once per week. This isn't always the case, however. Treatment may last a few weeks or a few years. There are many variables. A client will begin with a free consultation with Gary. If both decide that it is wise to move forward with therapy, the client will login to DeVine Intervention's secure portal, and upload their demographic information, along with insurance, credit card, etc. The client reads and signs an informed consent, a consent for telehealth, and a release for their doctor. During the first session, Gary will assess the client and gather background data to help him get a full picture of the client and the client's needs. From there, Gary and the client work collaboratively on a plan for treatment. The problems and goals are determined by the client. Objectives are created by Gary and the client. .
