Getting to know Gayle Dougherty

Hi, my name is Gayle Dougherty, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Prescott, Arizona, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I hold a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Minnesota State University Moorhead. I work with adult individuals and specialize in trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and postpartum depression. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Somatic Therapy, and Attachment Therapy to help clients understand and process past and current trauma and challenges, guiding them toward healing and a better sense of self. My approach I meet clients where they are and guide them through their therapy journey. Using Psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Somatic Therapy, I help clients identify thought and behavior patterns and learn new skills to improve their quality of life. My focus I work with adults who have experienced childhood and/or adult trauma—resulting in symptoms of depression, anxiety, unhealthy relationships, and difficulty with daily activities. I work at the client’s pace, patiently supporting their journey toward healing. My communication style My style is calm, open, and friendly. I listen carefully and create a comfortable space where clients feel free to share about themselves. My journey to mental healthcare I have fond memories of my elementary school counselor spending time in our classroom talking about feelings. Since then, I have felt called to help others in times of struggle, offering a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. My life experiences, both positive and negative, have deepened my empathy for others’ adversity. This inspired me to return to school and earn my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling to pursue my passion for helping others. My goals for you I strive to build trust and rapport with clients and work collaboratively to identify and set goals that meet their therapy needs.
