Gene Alexander, LPCC

Psychotherapist
KY
Hi there, I'm Gene! My name is Steven Alexander, PhD, and I earned my doctorate in Educational Psychology from Southern Illinois University. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with over 35 years of clinical experience. My practice focuses on mental health disorders, personality disorders, addictions, and relationship problems. My approach Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the most effective therapeutic approach for most clients; occasionally, a more behavioral-focused theory or an eclectic modality is more beneficial. My focus My clientele covers a wide range of issues. Recently, most clients fall into three categories: marital/partner disorders, mood disorders, and addiction issues. Anxiety and depressive disorders have steadily increased over the years, either as a primary or secondary problem. Addiction includes porn, sex, and gambling disorders. My communication style Clients say I am a great listener and empathize with their needs. I'm not a judge but a working partner who can assist with any issues. Building trust and comfort is essential to identifying and communicating difficult topics. Difficult paths are often part of life, but if you work with me, we will find better days ahead. My journey to mental healthcare As a Christian with an intense interest in psychology, I have always been motivated to help others with emotional stress. I view my faith and commitment to helping others as an asset to my therapy approach. Many clients come from other religious or non-religious backgrounds; where individuals place their faith is a choice, and I respect that. My goals for you Your therapy goal or outcome is a significant part of counseling. If you have a set goal, that is also my goal. If not, we will work together to define an outcome that meets your needs. My first session with you How I address the first session depends on the person's personality.
