Getting to know Genna Barr

I work with teens and adults who feel burdened by their pasts or a sense of feeling disconnected from themselves. I offer a grounded, compassionate space where the goal is not to "fix" you but rather, to understand you. We will slowly dig deep to make sense of your experiences, explore what truly matters to you at your core, and use those insights to better align your life to you. I believe therapy can help people release stress, fear, and guilt they may have been holding onto for years so that they can go on with a renewed sense of empowerment they can use to face any future challenge independently. I bring a chill, grounded, accepting presence to therapy that creates a space where clients can feel safe to be precisely themselves and know that it is not only welcomed, but celebrated. We do the work, but I make sure to leave space to breathe, laugh, and connect. I love seeing pets and try as I might, you may meet a few of mine along the way, too! Starting therapy can be intimidating, especially if you’re used to carrying things on your own, but your sole responsibility is just to show up and let me handle the heavy-lifting. I love what I do and find helping those in my care to be an immense privilege, so it is not a duty I take lightly. Whenever you are ready to begin, I'm here and honored to help.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is relational and existential, grounded in clinical awareness and a deep understanding of how past experiences shape present patterns. I strive to remain collaborative, culturally responsive, and client-centered in my work. I bring a relaxed, genuine presence into the room, along with curiosity, openness, and emotional attunement—creating a space where you can feel safe to explore, understand yourself more deeply, and move toward meaningful, lasting change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I want help you learn to feel safe within your own body, understand how your patterns were shaped by earlier experiences, begin to reconnect with your values and purpose, find space to grieve, and build authentic relationships. An ideal client for me is someone who is interested in doing a deep analysis of themselves because I believe that looking to the past allows clients to uncover hidden patterns that they can use to breakdown faulty beliefs, align with core values, find purpose, and heal. To me, you are the expert in the room because no one knows your experience better than you. I am trained to ask questions that promote deep self-exploration, but you are in complete control of where we go. You lead, I follow.
