Getting to know Gentry Gibson

I provide counseling to adults for a wide array of treatment goals and life challenges. Areas of focus include depression, anxiety, grief and loss, as well as career and personal development. My approach involves exploring patterns that have formed in your life unconsciously and developing and implementing steps you may take toward changing those that are less desirable by making conscious, healthful, deliberate choices. I draw on your strengths and attributes as well as on a variety of evidence-based techniques as appropriate, such as cognitive behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and psychodynamic therapy, to help you reach your treatment goals. I hold a Master's degree in Psychological Counseling and an EdM in Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University, as well as a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina. COVID-19: During this time of social distancing and quarantine for health and safety, all client sessions will be held through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video portal. After a short initial intake screening, I will provide instructions for downloading a free app to your phone or computer, through which we can connect for our video sessions. I do not take health insurance, but I'm happy to provide the necessary paperwork for you to submit a reimbursement request to your insurer.

Gentry is an incredible therapist — warm, intuitive, and genuinely easy to talk to. She’s helped me navigate some big life changes, including a cross-country move, with perspective and care. I really appreciate how she explains the “why” behind what we’re doing and connects it to the science in a way that actually clicks. Over time, she’s helped me break long-held patterns that were keeping me stuck and start to reconnect with myself again. She’s also super responsive and flexible, which makes the process feel really supportive. I’d highly recommend her to anyone looking for a therapist who combines deep empathy with real, practical insight.

Gentry has been so patient and encouraging throughout my time working with her! She allowed me to take time to get comfortable and showed me many tools to use moving forward even after we stop meeting.
Gentry has been extremely helpful in helping me understand and manage my anxiety, stress, and depression over the past 6 months. She is extremely kind and professional, and easy to reach when it comes to needing any additional resources, rescheduling an appointment, etc. I’ve seen results in myself that I didn’t think would be possible after spending so many years developing bad habits and coping mechanisms. I highly recommend her for anyone looking for an effective, straightforward, and compassionate therapist.
Gentry is a great therapist - she gives you the theories, frameworks, research, and tools to help you work things through. And she has amazing recall for things that were discussed in previous sessions.
Gentry is great! Not much else to be said. She is incredible smart, accommodating, listens, and pushes when she needs to. Finding a therapist can be daunting, but the process with Gentry was seamless.
Gentry is wise and insightful, helping tie together pieces I’ve brought forward across sessions to lead to new understanding, often through the use of cognitive behavioral therapy tools. She’s also warm and kind, creating an easy space in which to explore challenging topics. I appreciate the consistent structure of our sessions and the clear and manageable action plans she helps me map out for our time apart. Highly recommend!
I have been working with Gentry for over 2 years to manage major life transitions and difficult dynamics in personal relationships. Through our work I have learned so many effective coping skills. She has a very calm, non-judgemental, and thoughtful approach and helps me connect thoughts and patterns that I would not have seen myself (even details I would not have remembered). She is a wonderful therapist that I would recommend to others.
I have been working with Gentry for almost two years now and my experience has been incredible. Gentry has extensive knowledge, and patience, and has guided me to be a better person, I can't recommend a better therapist overall.
I have been working with Gentry for about a year and a half now and could not recommend her more. She has an extremely calming and empathetic demeanor, and always cares to remember little details to help better connect patterns in my life. Gentry has helped me in so many different areas of my life from my anxiety, confidence, relationships to helping me simply validate my own voice and feelings. I can sense how my inner dialogue has already shifted for the better, and how topics we discuss in sessions have started to naturally translate to my day to day interactions. Very grateful for her.
Gentry has helped me manage anxiety and panic attacks over the last two-plus years, during which I've experienced a bunch of life changes, including marriage, graduate school, a new job, and pregnancy. She's also helped me, as an adult child of domestic violence, to heal and manage my relationship with my parents. I look forward to our conversations and am very glad for her support!
Gentry Gibson has been an amazing therapist for me for the past 3+ years. An amazing listener and she is helpful with advice and mental exercises to do. Would highly recommend
I have been a patient of Gentry Gibson since January 2018. She is an excellent therapist, and she has a tremendous amount of patience and compassion. She has helped me with focusing on the positive and is helping me eliminate the negative narratives that I have lived with for a very long time.
Gentry is kind and warm and made it easy for me to open up about what I was dealing with. I met with Gentry for the first time during a very difficult time in my life and I didn’t know what I needed, but I knew I needed help. I was very apprehensive about trusting a therapist but Gentry was so even-keeled and understanding she never seemed surprised by anything I said. When you are feeling dark, and isolated, it was incredible to have someone fully accept everything I said, understand it, and show me there was a path forward. She has an interesting perspective and helps me see things from another angle. I am incredibly grateful to Gentry for helping me through, I am better for it and I think without her I would have been stumbling around in the dark a lot longer. Highly recommend!
Gentry brings a sense of calm to each therapy session. She asks thoughtful questions, helps contextualize things I'm feeling in broader ideas, notices patterns in our conversations, and challenges me to better understand my judgements about myself. She brings full attention to each session and it is clear she cares about her patients.
Gentry Gibson is a kind empathetic, knowledgeable professional. She gives me time to vent or just talk about my week. She will often lead a short meditation to help me focus and calm down and has given me resources for mindfulness to pursue independently. She helps me set goals for my therapy and has asked me to keep a journal about my feelings which I recently started. I would highly recommend Gentry as a therapist.
Gentry Gibson is empathetic to my feelings. She gives me things to really think about which opens my mind to new ideas and endeavors. She's thorough and insightful.
