We are all wired for connection. From our earliest moments to our adult lives, we have an innate need to know that someone has our back, that we matter, and that we don't have to carry our burdens alone. But when life gets overwhelming or when disconnection creeps into our relationships, it can feel like being stranded on an island—leaving us feeling anxious, lonely, reactive, or shut down. If you are feeling caught in painful cycles of conflict, emotional distance, or inner struggle, I want you to know that nothing is "broken" in you. These reactions are natural human responses when our sense of safety and bond feels threatened.

Getting to know Geoffrey Godley

We are all wired for connection. From our earliest moments to our adult lives, we have an innate need to know that someone has our back, that we matter, and that we don't have to carry our burdens alone. But when life gets overwhelming or when disconnection creeps into our relationships, it can feel like being stranded on an island—leaving us feeling anxious, lonely, reactive, or shut down. If you are feeling caught in painful cycles of conflict, emotional distance, or inner struggle, I want you to know that nothing is "broken" in you. These reactions are natural human responses when our sense of safety and bond feels threatened.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our sessions, I offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can safely feel and express what’s really going on inside. Whether you are seeking to repair and strengthen your partnership, heal past relational wounds, or cultivate a deeper, kinder relationship with yourself, we will work collaboratively to help you: 1) Understand your emotional landscape: Make sense of the feelings that feel overwhelming, confusing, or reactive. 2)Break free from negative cycles: Recognize the habitual patterns of pursuit, withdrawal, or defensiveness that pull you apart. 3) Build secure attachment: Express your core emotional needs clearly so you can experience authentic closeness, safety, and responsiveness. You don’t have to figure this out alone. Reaching out is often the hardest step, but safe, lasting change is truly possible.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is grounded in emotionally focused therapy (EFT) and attachment theory. Rather than just offering surface-level advice or coping techniques, we will slow things down together to look underneath the surface. We’ll explore the deeper emotions, underlying fears, and unmet needs that drive the patterns keeping you stuck. I am a recovering person and have experience working with substance abuse problems as well as some understanding of sexual addiction problems. I meet you where you are, and help guide you to a healthier path using CBT therapy and EFT. I am a believer as well in 12-step and encourage my clients to get involved to enhance their treatment!
