In this era of uncertainty, many are seeking clarity and direction. For some, it is the past we feel is chasing us. For others, it is the unknowns of the future. These thoughts become the cornerstone of anxiety, depression, and trauma. Our thoughts become huge monsters in daily living, making even simple things difficult. I truly believe none of us has been dealt a hand that cannot be managed. Allow me to join you in your fight rather than fight alone. My approach As a former military Christian with a blended family of 30 years, I utilize my experiences, combined with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, to bring healing to individuals and couples. My focus Over the last few years, I have had the honor to work with first responders, prior military, and their families to manage and heal from the disabling effects of trauma. This work expanded my career into the spaces of addiction, men’s issues, sexual trauma, grief and loss, and shame, to name a few. Through this work, I have also found a passion for working with relationships in trouble. My communication style I open sessions with an assessment of a client's bandwidth for emotional work that day. I use reflective listening and checking in to make sure I am tracking what my client is trying to convey. At times, I may use metaphors to help emotions become more tangible. I communicate clearly with prompts or ask permission when I find it necessary to enter a space that may be emotionally intensive. At times, I can be direct when I find it necessary or more gentle when emotions are running high. I close a session with a check-in for how a client is processing what has been discussed in the session. My journey to mental healthcare I reflect back to when I was 19 years old in the military.
