Hi there, I'm George! George Stamer, LMFT 42252. It's all about change, isn't it? Something in your life has gone off and it's confusing, difficult, and painful. Or maybe it's never been quite right, and now you're ready to address it. But what to do? And how? And to what end? Therapy offers ways to find your answers and put them into practice. My approach We humans are meaning-seeking, meaning-creating creatures. The meaning we make of things guides our choices, with the goal of ensuring our survival, and (with any luck) flourishing. When our choices aren't panning out, though, we can start by checking the accuracy of our thinking and the utility of our actions, and for that, many people find Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) very helpful. So I use CBT a lot for things like depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues. And sometimes, that's all it takes. When it isn't, we often get into those existential issues of being a lone individual, unique and vulnerable, trying to navigate social and physical worlds that can be capricious, hostile, terrifying, and pretty wonderful, too. That's the existential-humanist-narrative perspective. My focus I see an awful lot of folks who are struggling with crazy stress and high anxiety these days. This is particularly so for people going through various life transitions: launching into adulthood, establishing a family, empty-nesting, retirement, aging, dealing with death, and dying. How do I find my way, myself, in a changing world? My communication style We're just having a conversation. I'm interested in you, and what you have to say. I'm not judging you, I don't have some master plan of how you're supposed to be, I consider you to be the expert on your own life. But we're talking because something is bothering you, and you can tell me things you wouldn't dream of telling anyone else, and I can ask you questions that no one else will. We go at your pace, dealing with stuff as you are ready to.
