Dr. Georgia Harrison, DSW, LCSW

Psychotherapist
MD
I help adults and couples navigate betrayal, emotional disconnection, recurring conflict, and trauma that continues to affect their lives and relationships. You may be capable and dependable in other areas of life while privately feeling overwhelmed, on edge, emotionally shut down, or disconnected from the people you love. Perhaps you've tried to work through these challenges before, but the same patterns keep returning. I'm Dr. Georgia Harrison, DSW, LCSW, founder of Break in the Dawn. I'm an EMDR Certified therapist, Gottman Level 2 trained clinician, and Navy veteran. My experience includes working with military members, veterans, high-performing professionals, and couples navigating complex relationship challenges. My approach integrates EMDR, Gottman-informed couples therapy, attachment-focused work, and nervous system regulation. Together, we'll explore the experiences and patterns contributing to your difficulties while developing practical ways to respond differently, strengthen connection, and create meaningful change. I believe understanding and accountability belong together. We can recognize why certain responses developed without overlooking their impact on ourselves or our relationships. I offer individual and couples therapy, extended sessions, and personalized EMDR and couples intensives. You don't need to know which format is right for you before reaching out. We can discuss your concerns and explore the most appropriate starting point during a consultation. Break in the Dawn is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance. Virtual therapy is available in TN, FL, IL, MD, NC, SC, and Washington, DC. In-person extended sessions and intensives are available by arrangement in Chattanooga, TN.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can expect a warm, direct, and collaborative approach. You don't need to have the right words, understand every pattern, or know which type of therapy you need before reaching out. We'll begin by understanding what matters most to you, what you've been experiencing, and what you'd like to be different. Our work connects what we explore in sessions to your everyday life, whether that means responding differently to triggers, communicating your needs, establishing boundaries, rebuilding self-trust, or navigating closeness and conflict. I believe understanding and accountability belong together. We can approach the experiences and protective patterns that have shaped you with compassion while also recognizing their impact and creating opportunities for meaningful change. In couples therapy, I work to understand each partner's experience without assigning blame or assuming that staying together is the only acceptable outcome. Our focus is on understanding what's happening between you, identifying what needs to change, and exploring what a healthier path forward might look like. EMDR therapy and intensives begin with thoughtful assessment and preparation. We'll discuss the available approaches, determine what feels clinically appropriate, and work at a pace that supports your readiness. Your questions, preferences, and feedback are welcome throughout the process. Break in the Dawn is a private-pay practice. Fees and what's included are discussed before beginning treatment. Superbills may be available for eligible services, although reimbursement depends on your insurance plan and cannot be guaranteed.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin by understanding what brings you in, what you'd like to be different, and whether my services are a good fit for your needs. An initial consultation gives us an opportunity to discuss your concerns, answer questions, and explore possible starting points. Our first clinical appointment includes a more comprehensive assessment. For individual therapy, we'll explore your experiences, relevant history, current challenges, strengths, and goals. Together, we'll develop a treatment plan that may integrate EMDR, attachment-focused therapy, somatic approaches, and practical tools for everyday life. EMDR processing begins only after appropriate assessment and preparation. For couples, I take time to understand each partner's perspective, the patterns affecting your relationship, and what each of you hopes to change. This may include individual conversations as part of the assessment process, with clear expectations about confidentiality and information sharing. We'll also assess whether joint work is appropriate and identify priorities such as rebuilding trust, navigating conflict, strengthening emotional connection, or addressing intimacy concerns. Depending on your needs, goals, and readiness, I may recommend ongoing therapy, extended sessions, or a personalized intensive. Before an intensive, we'll clarify its purpose, structure, preparation, fees, and what is included so you can make an informed decision. Throughout our work, we'll revisit your goals, evaluate progress, and adjust our approach as needed. When appropriate, we can also discuss resources and support between appointments or following an intensive. With your authorization, I can collaborate with your existing therapist or other providers to support continuity of care.
