“This was my first visit and I couldn’t have been more pleased with my choice in provider. This was one of the first therapy sessions with a provider that actually made me feel I was 100% reaping the benefits! I’ve been to plenty of counseling appointments where I’ve felt comfortable but never fully understood. Definitely recommend!!”

Getting to know Gerald Baird

If you have an eating disorder or other mental health challenge, reaching out for help can be one of the hardest and best choices you can make. So many of us feel alone in our modern world filled with technology that disconnects us. The challenges of daily living can feel overwhelming, but there is a path forward. Counseling can offer hope in the form of a changed view of yourself and your situation, providing increased confidence and tools to break through barriers. Your past doesn't have to continue to define you, and you can replace your shame with compassion. With a Master’s in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University, I am here to work together with you to understand and address your pain and distress.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Since 2021, I have worked full-time with clients who have eating disorders. This unique mental and physical health challenge requires expertise and knowledge from a multi-disciplinary team that includes a therapist, dietitian and physician to effectively address. It can be challenging to find a skilled provider in this area, which is why it is my specialty. My approach is strengths-based and focused on increasing resilience to help you overcome the challenges you are facing. As a therapist I have a front-row seat to human suffering, but I also see the resilience and positive qualities that allow suffering to be transcended. We can work together to turn your pain into power and your disappointments into growth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My primary therapeutic modalities are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centered and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I also incorporate mindfulness and self-compassion into most sessions, depending on the client's preference.

Gerry is an outstanding therapist. My husband and I have been with him for two and a half years and have seen dramatic improvement in our lives individually and as a couple. Working with Gerry has enabled me to start seeing myself and my life in a new way and to begin changing things about myself that I thought were unchangeable. He is intelligent, compassionate, and humorous. I’ve learned that I can experience my feelings without drowning and know that I am safe exploring my inner world with his guidance. He has helped my husband and me to gain insight into ourselves and our challenges, to increase our capacity to communicate, and to develop healthier coping skills. His care for us also extends beyond our therapeutic sessions. It’s not an exaggeration to say that he has saved both my life and our marriage. Thank you, Gerry!
Gerry is a remarkable therapist. He's super smart and amazingly compassionate. If you are lucky enough to have his help in your life, you'll know what I mean.
