Gloria Sherrod, LCPC

Psychotherapist
IL
Hi, I’m Gloria! I'm a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who believes therapy should feel like a genuine conversation, not a cold clinical interview. I work with people navigating OCD, ADHD, trauma, depression, anxiety, and the emotional weight of chronic illness. If your thoughts feel loud, your brain feels uncooperative, or your past keeps creeping into your present, I get it and we’ll work through it together. I bring a strong clinical foundation to this work. I have extensive training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, years of experience supporting adults with ADHD, and a long history of community mental health work and advocacy. I’ve also spent years helping college students navigate the transition from adolescence to adulthood — identity, independence, overwhelm, executive functioning, relationships, all of it. These experiences shape how I show up: grounded, understanding, and attuned to the many layers of someone’s life. In therapy with me, you can expect: -Space where you can be fully yourself -Real conversations, not scripted ones -Support that’s steady, honest, and collaborative -Tools that are practical and easy to use in daily life -A therapist who understands that humor and healing can coexist

What should a new client know about working with you?

Your first session with me is all about getting to know you who you are, what you’re struggling with, and what you’re hoping life can feel like instead. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what’s been weighing on you the most, and what you want help with right now. There’s no pressure to tell your whole life story at once; we go at a pace that feels comfortable. I’ll ask gentle, curious questions so I can understand your experiences and what you need from therapy. You can also ask me anything about how I work. By the end of the session, we’ll talk through a clear plan for moving forward together so you leave knowing what the next steps are and what therapy with me will look like. Most people walk out of the first session feeling relieved like they finally said things they’ve been carrying alone for a long time and someone actually understood.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is a blend of practical tools, genuine connection, and evidence-based strategies. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy; I pay attention to who you are, how your brain works, and what you’re going through so we can choose the right approach for you. I pull from several therapeutic methods like, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD, parts of DBT, and Narrative Therapy, but I use them in a way that feels natural, not overwhelming or “textbook.” My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded.
