Getting to know Grace Martin

Are you feeling anxious, sad or unsatisfied in your relationships with people, and stuck in figuring out how to attract the connection you want or how to repair what you have? I believe that all problems are relational- being human is to care about connection! I am here to help you analyze what is going wrong, and find new patterns that can help you manifest your best life. Change is difficult, yet inevitable & necessary. We tend to remain the same and follow old patterns until they no longer work for us. That's where I come in as a therapist, to help you through this difficult time with empathy and an outside perspective. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (in IL and FL) trained at The Family Institute at Northwestern University, the founder of Grace Couple & Family Therapy, and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. I am skilled in working with more than one person in the room, and bring my relational perspective into therapy with individuals. I believe that everyone deserves to be heard, and that life is not about not having problems, but about how you deal with them. My specialties are with individuals with relational issues, trauma history, anxiety and depression, couples suffering from communication difficulties or lack of trust, and family therapy with mothers and daughters. I am LGBTQIA+, sex-worker, kink and poly affirming. I incorporate trauma-informed yoga into therapy sessions when appropriate. My style of conducting therapy is validating, reflective, observational and direct, with an element of coaching through in-session interventions and homework to complete outside of sessions. I recognize that taking the step to reach out to a therapist is a great leap towards change, and also one of the hardest things to do. You're almost there- book the appointment, and then all that's left to do is show up- we'll guide you from there.

Grace is incredible. I've been seeing her for several years now, and she's truly helped me build confidence in myself and showed me how to compassionately care for myself through difficult times. She's connected me to a ton of resources, and sessions with her have proven to be invaluable to my growth in so many areas of my life. I'd definitely recommend her practice to anyone seeking trauma-informed, intersectional, and identity-affirming care.
