Getting to know Grace O'Leary

Grief is already lonely enough, you don't have to keep doing it alone. I’m not here to fix you, I’m here to help you live more fully as your true self. That means honoring the dark and light parts of life, and giving space to all of the parts of you, even the ones you don’t like very much. We won’t ever have a perfect life, but we can find meaning in the life we have. That means feeling our emotions, understanding ourselves and accepting every piece of our story so we can find real peace. You aren't too much, and your story deserves to be held with compassion and care. Every part of your story belongs in therapy, even the parts you have a hard time admitting to yourself. I’ve been a therapist since 2017, and have had the incredible honor of learning from each person I have worked with. I’m always trying to get better, and love that I now get to supervise other therapists and present in my community so we can all grow together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Board-Certified Music Therapist, and Certified Thanatologist. Sure there are lots of letters after my name, but what does that all mean? As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker I care about all of you, not just what’s happening in your head. Everything belongs in my therapy room; talking about relationships, culture, health, society, whatever is impacting you. I believe that all of it matters. As a Board-Certified Music Therapist, I know that sometimes words just don’t cover it. You know that song that perfectly explains how you are feeling? Bring it to therapy. Do you make music? Let’s talk about your creative process. Never picked up an instrument in your life but just feel like music is your go-to coping tool? Great! Let’s use that and take it a step farther. Music is something that impacts all of us, I know how to turn it into a therapeutic tool. As a Certified Thanatologist, I honor how incredibly vulnerable it is to share with someone else about the biggest loss in your life. To honor that and ensure that I can help grievers the best that I can, I did a bunch of extra education, training, and professional experience so I could earn this credential. Essentially, I know a lot about death and grief. Your story won’t be too much for me.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I believe that you are the expert of your own story, and it is my privilege and honor to support you. I want to work collaboratively with you to make therapy make sense for your life. That means that in our first session, we will get a good understanding together of what the root of the issue is, and make a clear plan for what next steps look like. I want your feedback, and you will be involved fully in all treatment decisions.
