Getting to know Gwendolyn Kinney

With over four decades of specialized experience as a classroom teacher, a school administrator and school counselor, a learning specialist for children and teens with learning disabilities and behavioral challenges, an educational consultant, adoption consultant, and a parent coach for parents with failure to launch teens and young adults, I bring a unique specialized approach to helping parents, adults, and families thrive. I have advanced training with the equivalency of three masters degrees with a focus on child and adult development, education, and mental health counseling. In addition to helping with family communication, I also enjoy working with individual adults and couples through an attachment and emotionally focused therapy approach. As a certified trauma therapist, I work with individuals who have a history of trauma and adults with dual diagnosis of a mental health illness and substance abuse diagnosis. My goal is to guide clients towards a focus on their strengths and to identify solution-focused goals towards meeting life’s challenges. I not only offer an educational approach to helping clients solve their own problems, but I also believe in creating and designing an individual plan that works best for each client. I do not believe in the one-size-fits all approach to counseling or life coaching. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor for the state of Texas and a Parenting Coach for clients in all 50 States.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I utilize a practical, educational, skill based approach with my clients with the goal of empowering you with new information and skills so you will feel empowered to face your current challenges. I am trained/certified in various therapeutic modalities and use a balanced approach based on my clients' needs. I don't apply just one theory, rather I design a unique plan for you.
