“I’ve been going to Hafsa Shibli for 2 years and I would 10/10 recommend Hafsa Shibli as a therapist. Sessions with Hafsa are deep, thought provoking, and always include a touch of humor. As a person who is constantly looking to grow and reflect, Hafsa finds a way to challenge my ideas in a comfortable and therapeutic manner. Not only have I seen my life improve as an individual, but my relationships with my friends and family have become much more rewarding. Hafsa truly cares about you as a human and her authenticity and sincerity is evident. As a woman in my twenties who has made questionable relationship choices (oops), I was nervous to delve into these patterns and other past traumas. Although I was initially reluctant to talk about certain things, Hafsa created a nonjudgemental environment for exploration at my pace. Going to therapy is honestly the highlight of my week and I am extremely grateful to have this supportive relationship in my life.”

“She made trauma therapy not so hard.. I was pretty nervous going in and she made me feel calmer going into EMDR and processing some of the stuff I was dealing with. She’s funny and provides a really relatable space where I really felt comfortable. ”

Getting to know Hafsa Shibli

Therapy is like getting a PhD in yourself, allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of you. “Why is it so hard for me to say no?” “How do I manage my emotions?” “Will I ever feel better?” “Does everyone overthink or is it just me?” This is the space to heal and process the things that are holding you back from living the life you want. I specialize in complex trauma, attachment and relational issues, depression, and anxiety. I have experience working with individuals and couples as well as children and families of all backgrounds. I believe that therapy is not one size fits all. Using elements of DBT, IFS, and somatic therapies, I tailor our sessions to your needs. I utilize a person centered, trauma informed approach and integrate cultural sensitivity into my sessions to create a space where my clients feel seen and understood. By incorporating compassion, curiosity, and humor, I encourage a collaborative process to empower my clients. My goal is to create a safe and inviting space for us to work together in order to achieve your goals. I’m ready when you are. A little more about me, I received my BA/BS in Sociology and Psychology from Tulane University and my Masters in Mental Health Counseling at Hunter College. I continued on to complete the 2-year Integrated Trauma Studies Program and EMDR Certification from the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. Outside of my work as a Mental Health Counselor, I enjoy hot yoga, learning how to keep my plants alive, and experimenting with new recipes!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Consultations are 15min phone calls for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapeutic process, sliding scale, and for us to get to know one another a bit. Feel free to check out my website for any questions and give me a call if you still have more! Initial session: The initial session looks different from following sessions as it is an intake session. In the intake, you will be asked a little bit more about yourself-- feel free to share as much or as little as you'd like. It also gives you the opportunity to ask any other questions you may have, as well as set goals for yourself in therapy and see how I may approach your specific needs. Following sessions: the more involved you are in sessions, the more progress you can expect to make in achieving your goals. I provide a safe, judgement free space to help clients make sense of their feelings while providing clients with skills and tools that may be helpful in reaching their therapeutic goals. The clients I have seen the most progress in are the clients who are motivated to participate in their therapeutic processes. Please don't hesitate to ask questions and provide feedback throughout the process!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I utilize a supportive, collaborative approach to help foster growth and change in my clients. Using person centered and solution focused orientations, I tailor sessions to the needs of each client.
