Hallam Rachael, MSW, LCSW

Psychotherapist
UT
I’m a warm, trauma-informed therapist who helps people better understand themselves, break out of old patterns, and create relationships and lives that feel more aligned with who they want to be. I work with adults navigating trauma, difficult relationships, people-pleasing, boundary challenges, grief, anxiety, and major life transitions. My approach draws from ACT, DBT, CBT, and relational and creative modalities. I believe therapy should be collaborative and practical while also creating space for deeper healing, self-discovery, and meaningful change. My goal is to help you clarify what matters most to you, build the skills and boundaries to live according to your values, and develop a healthier relationship with yourself and others.

Getting to know Hallam Rachael

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is collaborative and client-empowered. In our first session, we’ll get to know you, explore what your daily life feels like right now, look at family history, and understand what brought you to therapy. We’ll also begin identifying what you hope to change and what might help you move forward. By the end of our first session, we can talk about potential treatment approaches and whether it feels like we’re a good fit. We’ll continue developing your treatment plan together as we learn more about what you need. I want therapy to feel both grounding and genuinely useful—not just focused on understanding the past, but also on helping you create meaningful change in the present. And if we aren’t the right fit, I’m happy to help you find someone who is. I believe finding the right therapist sometimes takes more than one try, and there’s nothing wrong with that. My hope is that through our work together, you’ll develop greater peace, groundedness, clarity, and a stronger sense of purpose.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session begins with a check-in about what has been happening since we last met. When helpful, we may start with a brief breathing or mindfulness practice to help you slow down, feel grounded, and be present. From there, we might follow up on something we discussed previously, explore a homework or reflection exercise, or simply focus on whatever feels most important to you that day. I’ll regularly check in and give you space to guide the direction of our work—you are an active participant in deciding what we focus on and what feels most useful. Depending on your goals, our work might include processing trauma, using ACT or parts-informed/IFS techniques, clarifying your values, exploring relationships and patterns, or learning and practicing boundaries and communication skills. Sometimes, simply having a safe space to talk through your perspective on life, relationships, and the challenges you’re facing can be deeply valuable. I can work in a structured or more open-ended way depending on what you need. We’ll also periodically step back—typically every 4–6 sessions—to evaluate how therapy is going, whether you’re making progress, and whether we want to adjust our approach. We’ll usually end by identifying your main takeaway from the session and, when appropriate, something you’d like to reflect on or practice between sessions. I often encourage journaling as a way to continue noticing patterns, insights, and growth outside of therapy.
