Getting to know Hannah White

I am a Mental Health Counselor with a Limited Permit (MHC-LP) currently working toward licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York State. I earned my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University at Albany and my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I work with children, adolescents, and adults who may be experiencing anxiety, stress, life transitions, emotional regulation challenges, and self-esteem concerns. My approach is person-centered and strengths-based, and I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) along with developmentally appropriate techniques, including play-based and expressive interventions when working with younger patients. I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where patients feel comfortable discussing their experiences and developing practical skills to improve emotional well-being and navigate life’s challenges.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When working with me, you can expect a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable sharing openly. I believe therapy works best when it is collaborative, so I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship and working together to understand your experiences, challenges, and goals. My approach is person-centered and strengths-based, meaning I focus on helping you recognize and build on your existing strengths while developing practical tools to manage difficulties. I often incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to help identify patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and to develop healthier coping strategies. I tailor my approach to each individual. For children and adolescents, I may incorporate play-based or expressive techniques to support emotional expression and developmentally appropriate skill building. For adults, sessions often focus on increasing insight, improving emotional regulation, and navigating life transitions, stress, or interpersonal challenges. My goal is to help clients feel heard, understood, and empowered while developing the skills needed to improve emotional well-being and create meaningful change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, I focus on getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and learning about your background, current concerns, and goals. This initial conversation helps us identify areas of focus and begin developing a plan that supports your needs. In ongoing sessions, we work collaboratively to explore thoughts, emotions, and experiences that may be impacting your well-being. I often incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to help identify patterns in thinking and behavior, build healthier coping strategies, and support emotional regulation. Sessions may also include skill-building, reflection, and discussion of practical ways to apply what we talk about in everyday life. My approach is flexible and tailored to each individual. For children and adolescents, sessions may include developmentally appropriate activities such as play-based or expressive techniques. For adults, sessions often focus on insight, coping strategies, and navigating stressors, relationships, and life transitions. The goal is to create a supportive space where we can work together toward meaningful progress over time.
