Hi there! My name is Hayley Unterreiner, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Honolulu, Hawaii. I earned my Master's in Social Work from the University of Hawaii and have practiced clinically both on the continent and here on the island. My approach to therapy is holistic and person-centered-I honor that you are the expert of your life by listening first and often. My approach to therapy leads with compassion and non-judgment. I believe empowerment comes from releasing the shame and negative coping strategies we've picked up from childhood. I use strengths-based models as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which focuses on mindfulness and bite-sized skills that help us recognize and adjust to the fluidity of the human experience. I have worked with clients ranging from adolescence to the aging population. I am most comfortable treating conditions such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, parenting challenges, trauma, and mood disorders. My main goal is to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment. I do this by communicating in a calm, present, and curious manner. I hope that working with me allows you to access true vulnerability while feeling accepted and understood. Therapy is hard work, and I feel honored that individuals like you trust me enough to be honest about internal and external struggles. My journey in mental healthcare has included working in inpatient psychiatric settings, with the military community, and in medical social work. Throughout this experience, I have witnessed the profound impact early caregivers and environment have on how we view and interact with the world. I believe it is healthy to explore alternative ways of approaching current concerns or difficulties. Just as we make countless efforts toward our physical health, I believe there is power and satisfaction in doing the same for our mental well-being.
