Hazel Woody, LCSW

Hazel Woody, LCSW

Psychotherapist
WI
Hi! My name is Hazel Woody. I hold my LCSW in the state of Wisconsin. I earned my Master's in Clinical Social Work from Arizona State University Tempe Campus. Before that, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I have worked in a range of positions in the field of social work, including crisis intervention, child protective services, in-patient youth facilities, and therapy. These diverse experiences have shaped my perspective and given me a broader understanding of how people act and interact under stress. I always knew I wanted to be in a helping profession, but it took time to decide in what capacity. My personal and professional experiences have fueled my passion for helping others heal and find their inner voice. I'm driven to do this work because I know some people don't have a safe person to confide in, and I want to be that for them.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Two of the main theoretical frameworks I utilize are CBT and motivational interviewing. I like to create a very comfortable, laid-back environment. I let my clients lead the conversations and build rapport before jumping into treatment. The majority of my clients in recent years have been children ages 9-17. I also work with adults. I commonly treat individuals diagnosed with depression, anxiety, ADHD, adjustment disorders, and PTSD.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I like to start by gauging the client’s understanding of therapy, especially with children. I’ll explain the purpose of meeting, and ensure they know it is a safe space. I want my clients to know they are in charge of the sessions, and I won’t push them to speak about topics until they are comfortable. I ask my clients what they have noticed they are struggling with or need to work on. From there we brainstorm ways in which the client and I can work together to address their concerns. The goals we create are typically short and straightforward, easy for the client to understand.
