What should a new client know about working with you?

Heather Olson considers herself an eclectic therapist, incorporating a variety of therapeutic principles and philosophies to create the ideal treatment to meet the needs of each client, including interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, psychodynamic, and dialectical behavior therapy. She sees clients on an individual basis, ages 6-17, by appointment. Heather Olson does not provide family therapy. Heather Olson focuses on creating a safe, collaborative environment with rapport building, active listening, using open-ended questions, validating feelings, and paying attention to verbal and non-verbal cues.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Heather Olson loves being a difference maker, and to see the progress made by my clients, and to help them gain insight into coping strategies and skills that they can benefit from and utilize throughout their lives. Heather Olson and the client and/or client's parent/guardian will collaborate on identifying core issues that the client and/or their parent/guardian will want addressed in therapy sessions. Goals will be adjusted if needed as the client progresses and/or their presenting issues change and/or evolve. The first session typically involves building rapport, establishing a safe space, having introductions, explaining the purpose of therapy, discussing confidentiality, gathering information (bio psychosocial information), understanding the needs of the client and setting the stage for future sessions.
