Psychotherapist
1748 N Kimball Ave, Ste 206, Chicago, IL
I'm Heather “Corina” Morris, a Licensed Social Worker (IL license #150.111494) providing individual and relationship therapy for adolescents and adults. I earned my Master of Social Work from the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, where I built a strong foundation in clinical psychotherapy and culturally responsive care. My practice is built for people who are complex, layered, and ready to stop white-knuckling their way through life. I specialize in complex PTSD, eating disorders, borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, and religious trauma. I work with survivors, with people navigating grief and parental loss, and with those untangling racism within their own family systems. Hard, fast life transitions, the kind that leave you unrecognizable to yourself, are also central to my work. As a biracial, queer-identified woman raised in the South, I bring lived understanding of prejudice, cultural contradiction, and the exhaustion of moving through spaces not built for you. My practice is explicitly affirming for women of color, LGBTQIA+ and queer-identified clients, and those who are polyamorous, consensually non-monogamous, or kink-identified. My work is sex-positive and stigma-free. You will not need to brace yourself or educate me here.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You don't have to have it figured out before you come in. You don't need the right words, a clear narrative, or a tidy explanation of why you're struggling. You just have to show up. This is a space where the parts of you that have been hidden, dismissed, or told they were too much are not only welcome, they're exactly where we start. I don't pathologize difference. I won't ask you to leave any part of your identity at the door; not your queerness, your relationship structure, your online life, your complicated faith history, or your cultural background. A few things clients often tell me they appreciate: I am direct without being cold. I bring curiosity and humor when it fits, and I sit in the hard stuff when it doesn't. I will challenge you, gently, and at your pace, because real growth requires it. I will always follow your lead on what feels safe and what doesn't. If you've felt misunderstood, over-pathologized, or like you had to perform a simpler version of yourself in therapy before, this practice was built as a corrective to that experience.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with intention. The first session is about getting a real sense of who you are, what's brought you here, and what you most need from this space - not just your symptoms, but your story. From there, we build collaboratively. My work is rooted in a psychodynamic foundation, meaning we spend time understanding how your early experiences, relational history, and deeper patterns are showing up in your life today. That insight is the engine of lasting change. Alongside that exploratory work, I draw on interventions from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to give you concrete tools for managing intense emotions, navigating relationships, and moving toward what genuinely matters to you. The two work together: depth and direction, understanding and skill. Sessions may feel more exploratory and reflective at some points, and more skill-focused and practical at others; often both, at different times, depending on what you need. I pay close attention to the connection between your history, your body, your relationships, and yes, your digital and community life, because healing rarely lives in just one place. Progress looks different for everyone. For some it means symptom relief. For others it means finally understanding why they move through the world the way they do and beginning to choose differently. Wherever you're headed, we figure out the path together.
