“After so many bad experiences with therapists over the years Heather is the first person I have been able to connect with that gave me real hope. I hadn't made an appointment for several months after a bad mental health dip and finally made an appointment and we started right up where we left off.. she remember everything about our last appointment and really cares and helps find solutions to the problems im facing. I would recommend her to anyone going through similar things I am. ”

Getting to know Heather Summers

I am licensed in Florida with over 12 years of therapeutic experience. I hold a Master's in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University, as well as a Master's in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor's degree from Florida State University. I've spent most of my career in the non-profit arena, working with a variety of people facing a wide range of mental health issues in diverse settings. The majority of my time has been dedicated to supporting trauma survivors and individuals with depression and anxiety disorders. My therapeutic approach is eclectic, reflecting the mix of theories I utilize to best meet my clients' needs. I primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but sometimes other approaches such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) or motivational interviewing (MI) are more appropriate. I am also qualified to offer EMDR to my clients. I meet my clients where they are and work to build rapport through active listening in a supportive, non-judgmental, and empathic environment. This allows clients to address their issues and concerns while also being challenged when appropriate. I am passionate about empowering people to become their whole and authentic selves. It is incredibly rewarding to help individuals work through difficult situations and offer hope for the future. If you're ready to begin this journey together, I encourage you to reach out!

What should a new client know about working with you?

After our first session, you will start focusing more on making progress towards your goals. You might do more talking than I do from this point on, and that's normal! We will discuss big picture goals and specific short term objectives for your work in therapy.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
