My name is Emma Valdovinos, and I am a bilingual Spanish/English Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University Medical Center and hold a Bachelor’s degree from Vanguard University. I have been in the mental health field for four years and have worked with all age groups, including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults from diverse cultural backgrounds.
I am aware of the cultural factors that impact how we move and navigate through the world, which is why I humbly seek to provide culturally competent services. My experience includes working with high-risk populations through various programs at well-known nonprofit organizations. These programs include field-based services, outpatient mental health, and inpatient substance use treatment. The experience I have gained working with a wide array of presenting problems has given me the ability to collaborate effectively with clients to help them move closer to their goals.
I am passionate about mental health and helping others; I truly believe that every individual has the tools they need to become the person they want to be—they just need someone to help uncover their capabilities. My goal is to provide clients with a safe place to explore their struggles, learn new skills, and discover their natural strengths.
What should a new client know about working with you?
My goal is to help you feel heard and understood. I take a collaborative strength-based approach to therapy, which means we will work together to explore your goals and identify individual strategies that work best for you. Therapy is a personal journey, and we will go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
In the beginning we focus on building our therapeutic relationship, helping us create a plan for our work together. Sessions will be guided by your needs and goals as we will explore your thoughts, emotions and behaviors as we introduce tools and/or strategies that may support you. As we proceed, we will reflect on your progress, as the goal is help you feel supported while building the skills and insights you need to create a healthier life.
